Plaster bust painted to resemble porphyry. Porphyry is a red to purple dense stone that has been popular with royalty since the 15th century. It is believed to have been mined out of existence so most objects that are carved out of it are very old and rare. The famous tomb of Napolean Bonaparte is constructed of this coveted stone.
